The State Police at Troop T have announced their 'Buckle Up New York' campaign. The annual event aims to ensure motorists wear their seat belts during the busy summer travel season.

The high visibility campaign runs for 2 weeks beginning May 23rd and runs through Sunday June 5th. Authorities will be focusing on catching unrestrained drivers and passengers.

According to a State Police press release, Troop Commander Major Joseph W. Dodd,

When involved in a collision, wearing your seatbelt will often save your life or that of a loved one.  We are committed to preventing the tragic loss of life and devastating injuries that result from not buckling up, through education and zero-tolerance enforcement

Governor Cuomo's office reports the 2015 campaign resulted in 25,000 adult seat belt violations and approximately 2,500 for child passenger safety violations.

The New York State Department of Health estimates about 700 un-seat belted motorists are injured every month.
