It's common knowledge that Newburgh is a tough place to grow up. However, there are some good things happening in town and a recent news report takes a look at a school that is making a difference.

CBS News takes a look at the San Miguel Academy in Newburgh who's motto is, "The street stops here". What they're trying to do is give kids in the area a chance to earn an education and escape a life time of crime and gangs. Rev. Mark Connell is one of the school's co-founders and wants to give students an alternative.

Part of the theory behind the school is to literally keep the kids off the streets as much as possible. Students go to class 6 days a week, 11 months out of the year. The school offers after school activities to keep kids busy until around 5:30.

The school was founded in 2006 and we can only hope their great work will continue. Have a look at the CBS footage below.
