The Newburgh Historical Society has been informing the community for a while now.

There really is a lot of history in the Hudson Valley and especially in the Newburgh area. I was on Instagram the other day and I came across this awesome video that was talking about Newburgh and how something pretty cool was started in the Newburgh Free Library.

Any guesses on what was started there?

What was started in the Newburgh Free Library?

This is pretty cool and here's the answer, The Newburgh Historical Society was started in one room in the Newburgh Free Library. Eventually when it became bigger The Newburgh Historical Society moved to 2 rooms at 48 2nd Street and eventually found its home in The Crawford House. The progress was really cool, it went from one room, to 2 and eventually took over a whole house.

The society was all about keeping the collection and data about the Hudson River Valley and focusing on on it's vast amount of Revolutionary War history.

The Newburgh Free Library is located at 124 Grand Street in Newburgh and is commonly used by people in the Hudson Valley. The Crawford House is located on 189 Montgomery Street right in Newburgh and today you can sign up and take tours of The Crawford House and you can schedule a tour at 845)561-2585 or email info@newburghhistoricalsociety.org.

How old is The Newburgh Historical Society?

To be fair it's pretty old, but that's to be expected when it comes to history. The society has been around for atleast 140 years and has been making its mark on the community for a VERY long time.

Next time I drive by the Newburgh Free Library I'm going to think about how a huge part of Newburgh history was started there. Have you been to the Newburgh Free Library or The Crawford House before? Share your experience with us on the station app:
