Probably not a surprising statistic, as it is not new information that there are many people that settle in for Chinese take-out around Christmas Eve/Christmas Day in New York, but a recent study indicates that the Northeast makes up ALL of the top ten states that are searching 'Chinese food near me' during the week of Christmas. The study looked at the time frame spanning the past five years.

Many New Yorkers Opting For Chinese Food Around Christmas

Coming in at number seven on a list of states that search for Chinese food availability during the week of Christmas, New York cliches a top ten spot among many other surrounding/nearby states. Delaware took the top spot, followed by Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey. New Hampshire, Massachusetts, NY, Pennsylvania, Maine, and Maryland.

According to Long Island Business, the reason behind New Yorkers ordering Chinese take-out around the Christmas holidays is because Chinese restaurants are often times the only ones open on the holiday, thus many people have made it a family tradition to order their favorite to-go dishes for the holiday.

If you've ever wondered what the preferences are when it comes to Chinese take-out orders state-by-state, lucky for you, the research has been done for you. In order to calculate dish popularity, a list of 30 'recognizable' Chinese food dishes was created, and then run through Google Trends for analysis in order to determine what was top-searched state-by-state.

Research demonstrated that Szechuan chicken topped the list for eight states, egg rolls in seven, five states prefer friend rice, four crab rangoon, three for orange chicken, lo mein and pot stickers. As for New York, apparently we tend to search for Buddha's Delight, which is typically a kind of vegetarian stir-fry.
