The Thruway Authority has released information on toll rates for 2016, and it's good news for New York drivers.

The Times Herald Record reports there will be no rate increases next year along the nearly 600 mile highway. Despite approximately $1 billion, of the $2 billion budget going toward Tappen Zee Bridge construction project, there will be no increases there as well. Executive Director Robert Megna reports due to internal efforts to balance the budget and increased funding from Governor Cuomo's office, there is no need to enact a raise in toll rates.

Tolls were last raised on the Thruway six years ago. A previously planned rate hike for commercial vehicles was avoided when the state took over costs of policing the highway.

As previously reported, the Thruway is moving towards eliminating toll booths and moving to an electronic system that would scan cars and send bills in the mail. Cars with existing EZ Pass acounts won't notice a difference.
