Online Threat Places 2 Middletown Schools Into Lockdown

A serious online threat forced Middletown school officials to lockdown two schools.

Late Monday morning, Middletown school officials were told about what's described as a serious online threat made against Monhagen Middle School.

In response, law enforcement was called to investigate the threat and a school-wide lockdown was issued at Monhagen Middle School and Maple Hill Elementary School. The two schools are less than a mile from each other, according to Google Maps.

"The situation continues to be investigated by school authorities and law enforcement. Threats against schools are treated very seriously, and if a student is found to have made a threat they would face consequences through our school’s Code of Conduct, as well as potential legal consequences," Middletown Superintendent of Schools Richard M. Del Moro said.

Maple Hill Elementary School was also put into lockdown as a precautionary measure, officials say. Every student's backpack at Monhagen was checked and the school was checked by security. There was an increased police presence at both schools during dismissal

Details about the threat weren't released but school officials say after an investigation no one was ever in danger.
