Orange County DA: 'Game Changing Technology'
In a Press Release on May 1st, Orange County DA Hoovler shared the details of the integration of new 'game changing' technology that will directly impact the analysis and distribution of evidence and information.
A means of increasing 'labor productivity while lessening individual workload of police and prosecutors,' the first stages of AI technology implementation are underway in Orange County.
The NICE platform, which is a 'digital policy solution,' had representatives meet on Thursday, May 1st with Orange County police chiefs in order to discuss and introduce services. In his Press Release, DA Hoolver shared what exactly NICE Investigate is:
a solution that automates the collection and organizing of digital evidence from the siloed systems law enforcement operates in today. Once the evidence is collected and matched from the source systems to the corresponding NICE case, the individual(s) assigned to the case are notified that new evidence is available. The solution is constantly in sync with these systems and will continue to collect evidence from those systems throughout the case lifecycle.

'System To System Handoff'
A records management system, in order to ensure compliance, NICE Investigate creates a 'streamlined, seamless and secure' process between the various essential departments involved in information exchange, a 'system to system' handoff. Integration of this new system will help automated collection of digital evidence, and an easier distribution process to essential agency partners.
Additional description provided by the DA's Press Release indicates that this system will leverage 'AI and engineered pathways to serve police, probation, the DA's Office and the defense bar.'
DA Hoovler referred to the technology integration 'the dawn of a new age of policing and prosecuting crime,' and indicated that funding for this initiative will be offset by state grants.
