A Historic Moment in Mascot History

She's got a pretty long lineage of being a record breaker, dating all the way back to 1975 when 'Lady Met' debuted for the New York Metropolitans (yes, we're getting formal) on Opening Day at Shea Stadium. Before that, fans would only see her in publications or promotional materials. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Met became the first ever 'mascot couple.'

The power couple returned in the 1990s, before both became an every-game staple at Citi Field in 2013.

Now, fast forward to present day, Mrs. Met has officially been elected into the 2026 class of the Mascot Hall of Fame, making her the FIRST ever female mascot to receive such an honor, and, giving the Mets the title of first franchise to have two mascots in the HOF.

MLB.Com Says 'Make Room For Mrs. Met'

Mr. Met was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame back in 2007, just two years after it's inception. Established to 'honor the greatest mascots in sports and entertainment,' the HOF exists to recognize 'characters that have made extraordinary contributions to their teams, communities and the mascot profession.'

Executive Vice President and Chief of Ballpark Operations for the New York Mets, Katie Haas shared the following on the Mrs. Met HOF announcement:

Mrs. Met has been a beloved part of the Mets family for decades and has inspired fans of all ages with her energy, kindness and unwavering love for baseball. Her election to the Mascot Hall of Fame is a historic milestone, not only for the Mets organization, but for mascots across professional sports. We couldn't be prouder to celebrate this well-deserved and long overdue honor.

Eligibility wise, mascots must have been around for at least ten years, and once nominated, chosen via public online voting under the direction of an executive committee. In addition to Mrs. Met, the 2026 class includes Goldy Gopher from the University of Minnesota, the Denver Broncos Miles, and Cosmo from Brigham Young University.

Congrats, Mrs. Met, on this distinguished honor, and for paving the way for other lady mascots for future induction classes.
