I have to admit, one of the first things I thought about when Babies R' Us closed their doors was the annual carseat trade in event.  Basically, you had the opportunity to 'trade in' an old, unused, or even expired carseat and get a coupon for a % off a new baby item.  I remember trading in an old seat we found in our attic when we bought our first house and used the coupon to buy my daughter her next size seat.

Anyway, fear not, Target has stepped up to the plate, and their car seat trade-in event is happening NOW!  This isn't the first time they've held an event like this, they've had a few trade-in events since 2016 or so.

From now until May 4th, you can bring your old seat to Guest Services, and in return, you'll receive a coupon for 20% off a new car seat, booster seat, car seat base, travel system, stroller, select high chairs, swings, rockers and bouncers, whew!  You'll have until May 11th to use the coupon, in-store or online, so you have some time to pick out the perfect pattern for your little one!

The bonus part about this initiative, in addition to getting the coupon and reducing the number of expired car seats out there, is that it is

an effort to help parents recycle the seats, which are not eligible for curbside recycling and take up a lot of space when sent to landfills. The retailer hands over all the old car seats to Waste Management, and the materials are recycled to make grocery carts, plastic buckets and construction materials like steel beams

Based upon my research, all the local Target stores are participating in the trade-in event.  You can check out more info about your local Target location here.
