Passerby Saves Woman From Assault in Poughkeepsie

A woman was assaulted during a strong-arm robbery in Poughkeepsie, police say.

On Monday, August, 30, 2018 at approximately 4:00 a.m. the Town of Poughkeepsie Police responded to a disturbance in the area of Innis Avenue and Delaval
Place.

Upon arrival, officers determined that a strong arm robbery had occurred, where a male suspect assaulted a female victim while attempting to take her personal property.

A passerby who witnessed the suspect assaulting the female stopped and detained the suspect until police arrived and placed him into custody. The suspect was identified as Robert L. Diggs, 39, of the City of Poughkeepsie.

The female victim was sitting on a bench waiting for a ride prior to the incident. The victim does not know Diggs personally.

Diggs was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail on no bail pending a future court date.
