POK Social Security Office No Longer On DOGE Savings List

2025 has been off to a pretty wild start, hasn't it? There's been no shortage of news stories all over the place, some popping up right in our area of the Hudson Valley. One story we've been following for just about a month recently took an interesting turn.

Poughkeepsie Social Security Office Listed On DOGE Site?

Towards the end of February, some concerning information started circulating around the Dutchess County regarding the Poughkeepsie Social Security Administration (SSA) office on Main Street. These concerns came right on the heels of the Poughkeepsie branch closing down 'temporarily, for renovations.' The news that was shared with the community was that the location, the only in Dutchess County, would undergo renovations that would expand on existing services.

With no reopening date or any definite updates provided to anxious community members, concerns heightened when the Poughkeepsie SSA Office landed on the official DOGE website, under 'savings.'

With the Newburgh Office shuttering for good just last year, Dutchess County residents are left to travel into Middletown, Hudson, or Westchester to take care of necessary SSA business.

Poughkeepsie SSA No Longer Listed on DOGE Site

Less than a month later, and after satellite services for the elderly population in the area to get social security paperwork-related assistance was set up by Dutchess County Office for the Aging, something's changed again.

Congressman Pat Ryan, who has been a vocal advocate for his constituents in the area following the closure of the office, and listing on the DOGE site, shared the following:

The Poughkeepsie Social Security Office is no longer listed on the official DOGE site under savings, where it previously indicated an 'end of service' date of 7/31, and a total savings of $359,135.

Though there has been no additional information shared with regard to the reopening of the Main Street location, the official social security website's location finder does indicate that the 332 Main Street Poughkeepsie location is open Mon-Fri 9am-4pm.
