Two men from Putnam County are accused of possessing 67 bags of heroin and two dozen hypodermic needles.

On Oct. 29 around 6:30 p.m., members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office stopped are car in the Town of Paterson on Fox Run Lane for several equipment violations on the car.

During the traffic stop, deputies allegedly observed a number of hypodermic needles, in plain sight, on the floor of the vehicle. As police investigated further, they allegedly found the two men to be in possession of 67 baggies of heroin and 24 hypodermic needles.

Jared Dimaio, 30, of Paterson was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, misdemeanors and several vehicle and traffic violations.

Gomes was arraigned in Town of Patterson Justice Court and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.

Michael Gomes, 27, of Paterson was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. He was also arraigned in Town of Patterson Justice Court and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.

Both have multiple prior arrests, police say.
