Police: Connecticut Man Used Counterfeit Currency to Bail Himself Out

A Connecticut man is facing multiple felony charges after he allegedly broke into a Millbrook home, stole a motorcycle, led police on a car chase and a foot pursuit, and then used counterfeit currency to bail himself out of jail.

Boy, where to start with this guy? Well, I guess we need to make a list:

1. Don't steal a vehicle
2. Don't break into somebody's home
3. Don't steal from said home
4. Don't run from the police
5. Don't drive the wrong way on the Taconic State Parkway
6. Don't crash into a police car
7. Don't use counterfeit currency to bail yourself out of jail.

On Jan. 2, 2017 a Millbrook man reported to the New York State Police that somebody had unlawfully entered his garage and stole his Kawasaki motorcycle. The man gave police a description of the vehicle and patrols were alerted.

Troopers observed a white Ford Econoline van, which matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle traveling south on the Taconic State Parkway. Troopers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver failed to comply with the officers emergency lights and sirens.

The driver then crossed the median and began to drive southbound in the northbound lanes before crashing into a Town of East Fishkill patrol car. The officer was not injured in the collision.

The man exited the van and led police on a short foot pursuit before being taken into custody. The driver, identified as Rosado, was taken to East Fishkill Police Department where he was charged with attempted assault in the second-degree, reckless endangerment second-degree, unlawful fleeing of an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and leaving the scene of a property damage auto accident.

Rosado posted $700 cash bail and was transported to the state police barracks in Poughkeepsie. It was later discovered that he had given the officers counterfeit currency for station bail. As a result, the East Fishkill Police Department additionally charged the defendant with criminal possession of a forged instrument first-degree.

Rosado is also facing charges of Burglary in the third-degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the third-degree, reckless endangerment in the first-degree, grand larceny fourth-degree, and criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth-degree, all felonies.

A State Police investigation indicated that the Ford Econoline Rosado was operating was stolen from Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Rosado was arraigned and sent to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. He is due back in court at a later date.
