Police Should Stake Out This Popular Hudson Valley Intersection
I already know the hate I'm going to receive for making this suggestion (snitches get stitches, after all), but if a certain Hudson Valley police department is looking to make a little extra cash, I know just the place they should go.
Speed traps and other "sneaky" police techniques have frustrated drivers for decades, but since new camera systems across the state seem to be taking the place of actual police officers issuing speeding tickets, maybe their presence could be used elsewhere.
Why Aren't Local Cops Hiding Out at This Hudson Valley Location?
The area that I have in mind is one of the most famous intersections in the entire Hudson Valley (below). Police wouldn't be camping out looking for speeders, but for drivers committing an entirely different type of infraction.
The Constant Driving Headache at the Poughkeepsie Arterial
My proposed target is the Route 9 arterial just east of the Mid-Hudson Bridge in Poughkeepsie, NY. Navigating the web of on and off-ramps is already a headache, but there's one thing in particular that drivers continually get wrong.
Failure to Yield at the Poughkeepsie Arterial
No matter the time of day, cars and trucks using the arterial can't seem to grasp the meaning of a yield sign. Vehicles on the entrance and exit ramps are meant to yield to the fast-moving traffic of route 9 (above), but whether they're joining route 9 or continuing on the arterial (below), the rules of the road are consistently ignored.
While speed cameras reportedly fine drivers $50 for a first offense, failure to yield can result in fines over $400. If the Poughkeepsie Police Department needs a boost in revenue, they don't need to look further than camping out near the arterial.
