NY Mob Murderer Back in Federal Custody; What Happened?
After just over a week on the run, a convicted hitman for the Mafia from Rochester, NY is back in federal custody.
What Happened with Dominic Taddeo?
Dominic Taddeo was on the last year of a prison sentence he was serving for three murders he committed in Rochester, NY on behalf of an organized crime family. While he was set to be released in 2023, Taddeo was already living in a halfway house when he disappeared. On March 28th, the former hitman was set to attend a doctor's appointment. That was the last time he was seen. His status on the Federal Bureau of Prisons was updated to "Escaped"... until yesterday.
Rochester, NY Hitman Captured in Florida Apartment
Without providing additional details, authorities shared that their investigation led them to an apartment complex in Hialeah, Florida, where Taddeo was arrested "without incident". His current release date is now listed as "unknown". It's interesting to note that this wasn't Taddeo's first escape from custody either.
Taddeo's First Escape
Taddeo was originally arrested in 1987 on federal charges relating to illegal guns connected to him that he was allegedly storing in New York and Pennsylvania. After being released on bail, however, he never returned. It would be years before authorities were able to catch up with the hitman, but with the help of an insider tip, he was once again arrested when he went to visit family in Ohio. In 1992, a federal judge in Rochester, NY sentenced Taddeo to 54 years in prison.

Taddeo had been serving his sentence in Florida for murders committed in the early 1980s at the behest of an organized crime family in Rochester, NY. He was also tied to multiple murder attempts, including shooting mob captain Thomas Marotta a total of nine times on two separate occasions. Marotta survived both attacks.
