Wounded Siberian Husky Rescued from New York Mountaintop
Usually the patients rescued by forest rangers with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) have two legs... but this was no ordinary rescue.
Rangers in New York State are constantly dispatched to help everyone from Tesla drivers who try to drive on snowmobile trails to international hikers who require emergency airlifts. This time, they were called to Giant Mountain in the Adirondacks to help a very special hiking companion.

"On August 3rd at 6:20 p.m., Ray Brook Dispatch received a call from a hiker on Giant Mountain reporting her Siberian Husky had injured its foot and refused to walk", began the post from the NYS DEC (below).

The dog was too large for its owner to carry, but luckily rangers are trained in first aid for more than just human patients. After bandaging all four paws, ranger Lewis, the dog, and its owner were all able to safely descend from the mountain. The mission was relatively simple compared to some other canine rescues in New York.

Minnewaska Dog Rescue Details
Back in 2021, it took five long days before a dog could be rescued from a crevasse in Minnewaska State Park, taking a collaboration with a team of specialists from New Jersey (as well as a hot dog that was used as bait) to finally free the animal (photos of the rescue below).
While the rescued husky had reported paw injuries, some commenters pointed to high summer temperatures (as well as the classic "stubborn" attitude huskies are famous for) as other possible reasons the dog needed assistance. Check out more photos of the abovementioned Minnewaska rescue below.
