I had an opportunity to attend the New York Renaissance Faire over Labor Day weekend and enjoyed my experience from the moment I entered the gate until the time I left.

I wasn't sure what to expect as I haven't attended in a few years. As I got there, the joust was starting up, and this was the event I was most excited to check out. When I'm thinking Renaissance Faire, I'm thinking jousting.

But there was so much more to it. From there, we headed over to the costume contest and I called it right away. Green Knight went all out on his costume and ended up winning the contest. Although that guy with the inflatable fairy wings deserved props too.

As the costume contest was winding down I wandered over to the chess match between Maid Marion and the Sheriff of Notting Ham. This was by far the most impressive physical display of the afternoon as the two sides squared off in battle, but I'm not going to spoil the ending for you here. You'll have to see for yourself.

And it wouldn't be a New York Renaissance Faire without a giant turkey leg. It wasn't the most effective microphone, but it sure tasted delicious.

The New York Renaissance Faire is open weekends now through October 6th and is located in Tuxedo. Visit renfair.com/ny to order your tickets or for more information.
