Ever Been to this Restaurant Show on ‘The Dead Files’? (PICS)
PHOTOS: Take an exclusive look inside a former restaurant that was known for being one of the most haunted spots in the Hudson Valley.
There's a pretty cool restaurant/tavern/inn that really made a name for itself while it was open here in the Hudson Valley. The story behind the place is really wild...so wild it was even featured on the show 'The Dead Files' on the Travel Network. The restaurant/tavern/inn was locate on NYS Route 52 in Carmel and it's truly unforgettable when you drive by it.
What popular and spooky restaurant used to be in Carmel, New York?
I'm sure you've been by it before...I'm talking about Smalley's Inn in Carmel, New York. I've went to Smalley's a bunch of times and one of the times I went to lunch there with with my aunt we were able to get an exclusive tour of the place and we were able to spend time with the owner.
Take a look at how cool our day was at Smalley's Inn:

Many spooky experiences have been reported from Smalley's Inn over the years and that's a big reason why it became so popular. Some people who spent time at Smalley's Inn claim they have seen and heard ghostly figures throughout the restaurant, felt someone tugging on their clothing, have heard footsteps when no one is around and people who have worked there did not like to go in the basement because that's where a lot of activity allegedly has happened.
At the time, when I spoke to the owner Tony he said a lot of people did not like going into the basement (especially at night) and he hard a hard time getting staff to go down there. Tony also mentioned to us that one night he was working very late and someone in a trench coat walked into the bar asking to use a phone there. Tony said he went to get the phone, but when he came back the man had just vanished....very odd especially late at night. During our talk with Tony he also mentioned how there's an apartment upstair and he would stay up there...alone. He said he was constantly experiencing all kinds of strange things up there, but he didn't seem too bothered by it and tried to just roll with it lol.
What happened to Smalley's Inn in Carmel, New York?
Sadly, Smalley's Inn in Carmel closed its doors for good a few years ago and it went up for sale. The empty pictures of Smalley's Inn are pretty sad to see and it's hard to believe all that activity was happening in between those walls. I've driven by the building since it's been empty and it's pretty sad to see it that way, something has to be done to bring Smalley's Inn back. We are all hoping for a Smalley's Inn comeback here in the Hudson Valley...lol.
