The Snowiest Town in New York Got Absolutely Buried This Year
Snowfall totals have been released for the 2024-2025 winter season, and New York State has absolutely buried the competition.
Not only did New York receive the most snowfall in the entire northeast, but it wasn't even close. Lake effect snow meant that hundreds of inches of snow fell across the state, with the snowiest town receiving so much accumulation, it sounds like a joke.
Snowfall Totals Released for 2024-2025 Season
Earlier in the week, the National Weather Service released snowfall totals for some of the biggest cities in the northeast, including Buffalo, Albany, and New York City (below). None of them, however, came close to one small town in upstate New York.
The Snowiest Town on the East Coast Is in New York
Hooker, NY in Lewis County is located just east of Lake Ontario. It also holds this season's honor of not only being New York's snowiest town, but the snowiest town on the entire east coast. Newly released totals show a staggering amount of accumulation (below).
Hooker, NY Received the Most Snowfall in New York State
As the table above shows, it wasn't even close when determining who experienced the most snowfall. At a staggering 323.3 inches (nearly 27 feet), lake effect snow from Lake Ontario absolutely buried the area around Hooker and Montague, NY.

Lake Effect Snow in New York State
Lake effect snow (caused by cold air from Canada traveling over the warmer waters of the Great Lakes) meant that many upstate towns saw increased snowfall, with many areas joining the "200 inch club" of accumulation. Check out New York's one-day accumulation records below.
