The memorial is outside the Mt. Marion Fire Department at 766 Kings Highway in Saugerties.

On December 19, 2015, The Mount Marion Fire District responded to a home on Fel Qui Road in Woodstock for a chimney fire. During the battle with the fire Rose, 19, from Saugerties, was separated from his team.

After he was found, he became unresponsive and was later pronounced dead. Officials later determined the woodstove that caused the fatal blaze was improperly installed and the fire was ruled accidental.
