It's the first day after Halloween, and it already seems like Halloween never happened. Friends from Rochester are sending me Snapchats of it snowing this morning. When I was at the Galleria Mall in Poughkeepsie on Monday, stores were littered with Christmas decorations. Same goes for Home Depot last week - Halloween wasn't even over yet, and all the winter decorations were front and center while the Halloween decorations were relegated to a small corner.

Needless to say, whether you want it or not, we are in the Holiday Season. Though many people are going to be quick to hop right into Christmas, I was to remind people that we still have Thanksgiving first.

Since the pandemic, many retail chains have recognized that being open on Thanksgiving is not the best way to celebrate the holiday spirit. They realize that they have to give their employees a small, tiny break. Don't you worry, they will be open once again for Black Friday, but for one day, many stories will be closed in the observance of Thanksgiving, a day of being thankful for all that we have, right before Black Friday, where people mob each other and cause one another physical and emotional harm in order to get the latest iPhone.

List of Hudson Valley Retailers That Will Be OPEN Thanksgiving 2023

Before we get to what will be closed, which Hudson Valley chains and retailers will still be open on Thanksgiving? Certain places like grocery stores and drug stores are essential places of business, and can really save you if you are in a bind. Take into account that many of these locations will have limited hours.

  • Acme: Most ACME markets are open from 7 am to 4 pm on Thanksgiving. It also annually makes the list of the stores open on Christmas day.
  • CVS: CVS may not be a grocery store, but it can be perfect for picking up essentials and more! This year, many CVS locations will be open with typical hours. However, a CVS rep did confirm to the Pioneer Woman website that other CVS locations may have reduced hours or be completely closed—AKA you’ll want to check your local CVS to see.
  • Dollar General: According to Krazy Coupon Lady, you can make a stop at Dollar General between 7 am to 10 pm on this year’s Thanksgiving day—or night! Just not in Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, due to state laws that prevent stores from being open on the big day.
  • Family Dollar: Family Dollar will also be open from 8 am to 6 pm.
  • Old Navy: Need a last minute Thanksgiving dinner outfit? Old Navy stores typically open at 3 pm on Thanksgiving into Black Friday.
  • Rite Aid: Rite Aid is open but may have adjusted hours.
  • Save A Lot: Depends on the store, so you’ll also want to check your local Save A Lot!
  • Sears: Many Sears stores will open 6 pm on the night of Thanksgiving.
  • Stop & Shop: Some stores may have reduced hours while others have regular hours.
  • Starbucks: Starbucks stores are typically open Thanksgiving Day, but hours vary so you’ll want to check your local Starbucks for the exact hours before heading for your Thanksgiving caffeine fix.
  • Walgreens: Many Walgreens will operate from 9 am to 6 pm.
  • Whole Foods Market: Many Whole Foods are open on Thanksgiving, but with modified hours.
