Occasional guest on WRRV and comedy writer Larry Wilmore's Comedy Central show has been canceled.

Brandi and I were lucky enough to have interviewed Larry on a couple of occasions and he was always a funny, interesting character. He was the type of person who had an opinion on every issue and always had something to say, but you couldn't predict which direction he would go.

Picked to take over the post-Daily Show spot after Stephen Colbert left to replace Letterman, it was clear there would be pretty big shoes to fill. Unfortunately, with Jon Stewart leaving the show shortly thereafter, the comfortable lead-in vanished and The Nightly Show was never able to really establish its footing.

For now, @Midnight will be holding down the time slot, and Larry Wilmore will inevitably find another great gig; he's had tremendous success in addition to his previous role on The Daily Show as a producer and creator of The Bernie Mac Show and executive producer of black-ish.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Larry said:

"I'm really grateful to Comedy Central, Jon Stewart, and our fans to have had this opportunity," he says in a statement to THR, leaning on his “Keeping it 100” mantra as he continued: "But I'm also saddened and surprised we won't be covering this crazy election or 'The Unblackening' as we've coined it. And keeping it 100, I guess I hadn't counted on 'The Unblackening' happening to my time slot as well."

Here's our most recent interview with him.
