So we've been working on some ideas for future WRRV Spirit Society events, different cocktails that we can feature, different local Hudson Valley spirits that we'd like to shine some light on, and in my travels I've realized that people are incredibly creative with their mixology. (By the way... Is it still called mixology, or is that gone that same way that no one calls craft beer "microbrews" anymore?)

Anyway, there are really inspired and interesting things going on right now in the world of cocktails, and one of the trends and motifs I've noticed is manipulating ice. Sometimes that just means using one huge ice cube instead of several smaller ones... and sometimes that means having the cocktail actually start within a ball of ice in order to be cracked and enjoyed after it floods the glass. But... well, this one takes things to a whole new level.

Inspired by Song of Ice and Fire, the saga of fantasy novels upon which Game of Thrones was based, the mind behind Cocktail Chemistry on YouTube has decided to make a fire and ice drink.

I don't think I'd ever actually make this thing because I feel like it takes almost as long to make this as it does to actually read the books, but it sure is cool to watch:

Now, I doubt we're going to have this featured as a cocktail at the next Spirit Society meeting, mostly because we don't actually want anyone to burn their faces off while having a good time, but I can tell you that we have some equally fun and far safer things to look forward to. Check it out and sign up here!
