Three local towns have been named among the safest places to live in all of New York State.

The report compiled by SafeWise, known for their sale of security systems, uses data from the FBI Uniform Crime Report to compile the information. Violent crimes like murder, rape and robbery are taken into consideration, as are property crimes like burglary, arson and motor vehicle theft. They took this data a calculated risk in towns and cities with more than 8,000 residents.

#3 - Cornwall (Orange County) - A town of just over 12,500 according to the last US census data, Cornwall has a 0.1 score for violent crime and 4.4 for property crime (per 1,000 people).

#5 - Shawangunk (Ulster County) - With a population of just over 14,000 Shawangunk has rankings of 0.21 (violent) and 4.52 (property) per 1,000 people.

#22 - Blooming Grove (Orange County) - The 18,000 residents of Blooming Grove can expect .67 violent and 8.25 propety crimes per 1,000 people.

Towns with fewer than 8,000 residents were excluded from this report.
