A traffic stop in Kingston led to the arrest of man who was in the possession of a loaded gun, substantial amount of ammunition, and drugs.

Early Tuesday, members of the City of Kingston Police Department’s Uniformed Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with a suspended license. A further investigation led to police allegedly finding a large amount of 9mm ammunition, marijuana, and packaging in the vehicle.

According to Kingston Police, as they continued their investigation, they found a vehicle’s passenger, Francis Ross Carey, of the Town of Ulster, was in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.

Carey was arrested and charged with 2nd-degree criminal possession of a weapon, 3rd-degree criminal possession of a weapon, felonies, and 5th-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.

Carey was arraigned in Kingston City Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail without bail.
