A moon gate is a circular opening in a garden wall that acts as a pedestrian passageway and is a traditional architectural element in Chinese gardens. As it visually rises up out of the landscape, a moon gate is symbolic of birth and renewal. Hence why they have become very popular to have included at weddings! And I got a trick on how you can create your own really cheap and easy!

Create the Perfect Moon Gate for Your Hudson Valley Wedding

Recycle, Reuse and Repurpose! on Facebook is an amazing public group with over 1.5 million members. Regular folks share many of their incredible life hacks with each other, and through that, conversations stem and greater innovation follows!

L and L Green Thumb Project posted to the group saying:

"I made a moon gate this weekend with an old trampoline frame. I used wild gravevine for the weave and I'm going to plant a Yellow Jessamine on each side. I'm so excited!"

In the photos, you can see she also strung lights to it. Facebook won't let me embed the photo from the group here, but you can click here to see the post. However, I was able to find other photos from the source.

Honestly, this idea sounds awesome! And you don't have to do it exactly like Barbara to get something beautiful and to your liking! Using a recycled trampoline base like that is a great foundation, and then you decorate it anyway that you want! You can attach/plant flowers, lights, and various other decorations. In the posts above, this was used for a home garden. I could easily see this concept being used at a wedding. Imagine getting married and saying your vows within a moon gate decorated to fit you and your love.

Of course, you don't have to use a trampoline base to create a moon gate; however, they are sturdier than some moon gates I've seen. Not just that, you can easily bury it into the ground so it will stay, just like the garden above. PVC piping is another good material to create your own moon gate from scratch. And if you want some inspiration on how to design one for your wedding, I suggest the video below.
