Tequila Tuesday this week is about George Clooney? Yes, George Clooney along with Cindy Crawford's husband Randy Gerber have developed a line of Tequilas (the real 100% blue agave stuff) under the brand name Casamigos. They have the standard, Blanco and Reposado. With a bit of a different twist. Most distilleries do not age their Blancos, they make them and put them directly into the bottle. Casamigos "ages" their Blanco for two months, which allows it to soften just a bit. Their Reposado spends 7 months in barrel. Interesting to point out that these tequilas are aged in used American Oak barrels, ones that they are leading us to believe that have been used previously to age bourbon.

I have tried the Blanco and it is a bit smoother than others but one that because of its richness lends its self to a great component of a fine cocktail. Yes, this is one that you can use for shots, or mixed drinks, but if you are looking for a tequila to use exclusively for shots you might want to grab a bottle of the Reposado.

I spoke with a sales rep for the HV Distributor (Southern Wine & Spirits) and he said that the Casamigos is one of the most up and coming premiere brands. Most stores are stocking this, if your local liquor/spirits store doesn't have it, ask if they can special order a bottle for you.

Next week, we will get into some great margarita tequilas and recipes.

Here are a few recipes from the casamigos.com website. I am having friends over this weekend, guess what they will be drinking.
