Two men were sentenced in connection with stealing close to $40,000 in fraudulent credit card charges. Police say the suspects stole customer’s credit card information while employed at a local Staples.

In Ulster County Court, Shawn McMillian was sentence to 3 ½ to 71 ½ years in prison. Nerville Thomas was sentenced to 5 years’ probation. Both were also ordered to pay restitution.

According to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, while employed as a sales associate at a Staples in Kingston, McMillian stole customer’s credit card information and made over $26,000 in fraudulent charges. Thomas was accused of making around $12,000 in fraudulent charges.

The prosecution says both defendants used the stolen credit card information to purchase American Express and Visa gift cards. The defendants then used the gift cards for personal purposes.

Both were fired from Staples once the losses were discovered.
