Upstate New York Woman ‘Accidentally’ Drives Into Train At Busy Intersection

An elderly Hudson Valley woman "accidentally" drove into a train at one of the busiest train intersections in the Mid-Hudson Valley.

"If you can avoid the train tracks in Lake Katrine/Kingston it’s a good idea. Doesn’t look like it’s going to move for a little while. I sure hope whoever was in that car is OK," David Berman wrote on Facebook while sharing photos of the accident in Lake Katrine.

On Thursday, police confirmed the crash.

According to the Ulster Police Department, officers responded on Wednesday, Feb. 14 around 2:45 p.m. to a 911 call reporting a car vs train motor vehicle accident near the Leggs Mills Road railroad crossing.

The intersection is one of the busiest train intersections in the Mid-Hudson Valley, according to Mainetti Law.

Arriving officers found a red 2011 Cadillac sedan with significant front-end damage.

Cause Of Crash Revealed In Ulster County

Police report the driver, a 72-year-old woman from the Town of Ulster was trying to back out a of parking spot at 54 Leggs Mills Road.

But she "accidentally put the vehicle into drive and accelerated through the parking lot and collided with the side of a passing CSX train." No injuries from anyone on the CSX train were reported.

She suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Health Alliance Hospital for treatment.

The Ulster Police Department was assisted on the scene by the Ulster Hose Fire Department, Empress EMS, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police, and representatives from CSX.
