New York Shelter Cat Goes Viral for Adoption Photos

A shelter cat in western New York has taken the Internet by storm, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist (or personal trainer for that matter) to see why.

Meet Marcell, who shelter workers say is currently on a "fitness journey". While he is available for adoption alongside a longtime feline companion, it was photos of his unbelievably expressive face, along side a body that looks like it just consumed an entire lasagna, that caught everybody's attention.

Overweight New York Shelter Cat's Adorable Photos Go Viral

"I’m Marcell, and I’m ready to stride straight into your heart with 23 pounds of pure, unfiltered love", began a recent Facebook post from the Allegany County, NY SPCA. As his adoption shots show, there is a lot to love.

Cats Available for Adoption in New York State

The SPCA went on to explain that while Marcell was adopted alongside his "best friend" named Aspen, they both found themselves back in the shelter after their adoption hero passed away.

Marcell, who was described as a "deluxe-size gentleman" by the SPCA, already has an army of fans online. With over 1,000 comments and shares on his adoption post (below), it's only a matter of time before this round boy finds his next home.

"Omg I hope they get adopted together. Marcell is so handsome!!!", wished one commenter. "Why does this have to be in NY! I'm in Ohio. I'd love this chonk of a cat", lamented an out-of-state animal lover.
