[VIDEO] Massive Bear Visits Quiet Wappingers Neighborhood
It isn't every day you get a visit from a cute, cuddly bear, is it? Though this one is definitely cute (from a distance) not sure if we can classify him as cuddly, as the neighbors and my parents over FaceTime screamed for me to get back in the house after spotting this guy climbing the tree across from my driveway.
I Thought Nothing Of It When My Cat Started Making Weird Sounds About Something Outside
I had just pulled into the driveway, went inside the house, and opened up my front door so that my daughter would be able to get in when she was dropped off after karate class. Naturally, the cats rushed to the full glass storm door, pressing their faces up against it to see which of their crazy cat mom's (me) neighborhood visitors would be arriving for dinner service.
My little cat started doing that funny cat chirping thing, like when they get so excited about something and don't quite know what to do, it's isn't a meow or a cry, it's a strange cat language. I ignored it at first, but then it got louder and louder, and when I finally looked outside, I saw a large dark colored animal at the base of my neighbor across the street's tree. 'OMG, IS THAT A BEAR?!?!' are the only words that came out of my mouth.
After freaking out for a second, I went to grab my phone to alert the neighbors, and of course, grab some photos, and no joke, less than 15 seconds later this big boy was halfway up the tree.

My two cats and I stood at the front door, watching in amazement as this giant bear scaled the tree, heading straight for the bird feeders, seemingly effortlessly.
After my initial frenzy, and frantically texting the neighbors with misspelled words and some ALL CAPS words, I decided to go outside to take a closer look at our dear pal, who I affectionately started calling Yogi. I also wanted to be outside in case my daughter was dropped off in the middle of all of this excitement.
By now, we had a small crowd watching from across the street, while the people whose bird-feeders Yogi was going after, and whose tree he was in, bravely watched from much closer, on their front steps and driveway. I walked about halfway down my driveway towards him, while my parents (via FaceTime) instructed me to 'GET BACK IN THE HOUSE VALERIE.'
He spent a decent amount of time in the tree, cautiously navigating his way back down when he was done, giving us all a pretty spectacular show. After picking up the last few pieces of birdseed off the ground below the tree, he took off into the woods behind our houses, and nobody has seen him since...
I wouldn't mind another visit, as long as he remembers to stay on that side of the road.
