Building Inspector To Wappingers Spa After Stabbing: STOP WORK
The local community is still looking for answers following a scary double stabbing situation that took place in a busy part of Wappingers in early April. Now, less than two weeks after the incident, a stop work order notice appears on the door of the business, and all signs of activity have ceased.
Double Stabbing at Wappingers Falls Spa
Less than ten days after a scary incident took place in a strip mall spa in Wappingers Falls, locals are still wondering exactly what happened on that Saturday afternoon that resulted in two people being stabbed.
On Saturday April 6th, at 1490 Route 9 in Wappingers, two people reportedly suffered injuries as a result of a stabbing. Law enforcement from several agencies reported to The Physical Wellness Spa shortly after 3:40pm on the 6th. It was said that the alleged suspect 'fled the scene.'
Stop Order Issued to Wappingers 'Wellness Spa'
Passers by noticed a bright red sign on the outside of The Wellness Spa earlier this week, as the 'open' sign remained dim, and the lights off inside the business.
Upon closer inspection, the sign indicated that a 'stop order' had been issued by the Town of Wappinger Office of the Building Inspector on April 11th at 4:05pm. The notice indicates that it is a STOP WORK ORDER, 85-13, 'change of occupant in non residential building,' and can be seen below.
Upon checking the New York State Building Code, 85-13 Change of Occupant in Nonresidential Building indicates the following:
Whenever there is a change in occupant in a nonresidential structure, or portion thereof, a change of occupant permit is required. Such permit shall be obtained by the owner, the occupant or his/her agent prior to occupancy by the new occupant.
There are a number of components that fall under the 'change in occupant application' that must be completed. These are outlined and categorized as items 1-10 here.
According to NYC Buildings, a Stop Work Order, also known as an SWO, is issued when inspectors determine that a site has unsafe work or conditions. Additional information specific to the Wappingers Building Department and their regulations can be found here.
Strangely enough, the signage from the Trustco Bank that once occupied the other end of the shopping strip is now gone, with for lease signs hanging in the windows.
