One of the largest fast food chains in the U.S. has announced its plans to close hundreds of restaurants across the U.S. over the next few months.

As we enter the tail end of 2025, select businesses have announced plans to close locations. Earlier this year, we learned that Starbucks, Foot Locker, and a few others have informed investors they would be shutting numerous stores in 2025 and early 2026 in an effort to boost profits.

Wendy's Closing Hundreds of Restaurants Across the Nation

Wendy's has also informed its investors that it's planning to close hundreds of locations over the next few months in an attempt to make its remaining stores more appealing to customers and boost profits.

The company made the announcement on Friday, telling investors that it expected to close a "mid-single-digit percentage" of its 6,011 U.S. restaurants, according to ABC 7.

They didn't share any other details or give an exact number of stores that would be affected by the plan, but if the company chooses to close 5% of its locations, it would result in shuttering approximately 300 restaurants.

Will Any New York Wendy's Close?

It's unclear if any of the 229 Wendy's locations in New York will be affected by the plan, but we do know that the locations selected to close will be underperforming restaurants.

Why is Wendy's Closing Restaurants?

Wendy's interim CEO, Ken Cook, said the company believes that if it closes locations that are underperforming, it will help improve profitability at the restaurants that remain open.

Wendy's, along with most of the fast food chains across the U.S., has been struggling to attract lower-income customers because inflation has forced them to raise prices on many items.

The new round of closures comes on top of the closure of the 240 Wendy's locations previously announced in 2024.
