What is a Number Neighbor & Why Are They So Annoying?

Is the newest viral trend too evasive?
Have you gotten weird texts from an odd number recently? No, I don't mean robo calls or someone offering to buy cash for houses from some unknown number.
If you have been contacted by your number neighbor you would have gotten a random text from a very similar cell phone number to yours. The only difference is that the last digit would be one number before or after yours.
Number neighbors reach out in a variety of ways. Some will hit you with a simple hello while ask you way weirder questions. Some have even vented as if it were a therapy session via text. Has your number neighbor reached out to you? Maybe you've reached out to yours.
Here's an example of one right here in the Hudson Valley.
