The White House's public health expert says everybody who was in New York should be self-quarantining for two weeks.

"Everybody who was in New York should be self-quarantining for the next 14 days to ensure that the virus doesn't spread to others," Dr. Deborah Birx said during a White House press briefing on Tuesday, according to CNN. "To everyone who has left New York over the last few days, because of the rate of the number of cases, you may have been exposed before you left New York."

About 56 percent of all the coronavirus cases in the United States are located in the New York metro area, according to the White House. On. Tuesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo confirmed 25,665 coronavirus cases in New York State. Of those cases, 14,904 are from New York City and 4,749 are from Long Island.

The White House coronavirus task force is focused on New York, according to Vice President Mike Pence. During the White House briefing, Pence said anybody in the New York City metro area should avoid nonessential travel and anyone who traveled from the New York City metro area should self-isolate for 14 days.
