It was a busy day for local firefighters on the Hudson River.

According to the Times Herald Record, a group of 21 kayakers that were enjoying some time on the Hudson river on Sunday needed to be rescued.

The group was returning from a Hudson River tour when the came upon really high winds on their way back to Cornwall-On-Hudson.

28 kayakers and four guides left from Donahue Memorial Park earlier in the the day and according to Storm King Assistant Chief Mike Trainor, strong winds were pushing them northwest as they tried to paddle southwest while returning about 6:12 p.m.

He also told the Record that 7 of the kayakers were able to paddle safely back to Donahue and Plum Point State Park in New Windsor, but about 21 had to be rescued by fire boats from the Fort Montgomery, Vails Gate and West Point fire departments. Also three private boats from the Cornwall Yacht Club helped in the rescue.
