New York DOT Announces Fishkill Road Closure From Flooding

A highly traveled section of Route 9 in Dutchess County has been closed today (July 29th) due to flooding, with no reopening timeline announced.

For the past several days, experts have been issuing flood warnings after forecasts indicated that that the Hudson Valley was in the bullseye of this week's storms. Officials warned that the Hudson Valley's highest risk for dangerous flash flooding would take place between Tuesday and Wednesday, and after Tuesday nights storms, a number of areas across Hudson Valley have reported flooded roadways.

DOT Flooding Road Closure in Fishkill

Beginning at 6:31am on Wednesday, July 29th, US 9 in both directions (all four lanes) between Van Wyck Lake Road and Clove Road in Fishkill was closed as a result of flooding.

This area of Rt. 9, in the area of the former Dutchess Mall/current Home Depot, remains closed as of 6pm on Wednesday evening, with the Town of Fishkill Police Department sharing the following on Facebook:

No promises on how long it will take to reopen.

NYS DOT and the contractors are working hard to get the road open as soon as possible, but the pavement itself was damaged and will need to be remilled.

Dutchess County Sheriff's Office Reminds Residents To Drive Carefully

'Don't let curiosity or confidence get the best of you' - that is the message shared following the heavy rains and subsequent flooding across the Hudson Valley this week. Encouraging residents to never drive around barricades or road closures, allow for extra time and use caution when traveling, and to stay alert for changing weather and road conditions. The DCSO wants to make sure that Dutchess County stays safe.

Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. Water can be deeper and moving faster than it appears, and conditions can change quickly.

A few extra minutes taking another route is always better than finding out you could not, in fact, make it.
