6 Dutchess County families are driving to work in style thanks to an employment empowerment program.
What is The Way To Work Program in Dutchess County?
The Way to Work Program is part of a partnership between Dutchess County Department of Community & Family Services and the Dutchess County Workforce Investment Board.
Way to Work assists residents "who are receiving, or are eligible to receive, public assistance address their transportation barriers and support them on their path to self-reliance." Local residents are selected for the program based on their limited income and their work-related need for transportation.

According to a press release, the Way to Work program includes a wide array of services that the selected residence take part in, like financial bootcamps, a credit score improvement workshop, assistance with vehicle registration and insurance, as well as job readiness tools and much more.
After a month of hard work each recipient in the Way to Work program is presented with a pre-owned vehicle to get them to and from work.

Earlier this week, Dutchess County Government announced that 6 families would be benefiting from the Way to Work Program and receiving gently used cars.
Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino said in a statement:
“To raise healthy, successful families, parents need dependable transportation to ensure they can get to work. Today’s six recipients have truly earned the vehicles they’re receiving by dedicating time and energy toward building a better future for themselves and their families. Dutchess County is proud to support them with the opportunity, training and resources to thrive.”

How Can You Take Part in Way to Work Program
To be qualified to be a participant in the Way to Work program you must "come from a family that receives Temporary Assistance for Needy Families or whose family income is less than 200 percent of the poverty level."
