Care To Give A Rescue Dog The Best Saturday Night Ever?
As someone who grew up in a home with cats, and now as an adult have only had feline-four-legged family members, i've recently thought about what it might be like to open up our home to a dog, even if on a temporary basis [to start]. Of course, my almost 11-year-old daughter asking for a puppy every other day may have added to that.
Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County, aka CARE of DC, is looking for caring families to take on one of their rescue pups, both dogs and puppies, for a Saturday Sleepover!
One night outside the kennel can help a dog relax, decompress, and even boost their chances of finding a forever home. Even one night can make a world of difference. Thank you for giving a shelter dog a break they’ll never forget
In order to participate, interested families can fill out this Google Form, which officially signs you up to be a sleepover site. Dogs and puppies are then matched on a first come, first serve basis, so the CARE of DC team are encouraging those interested to both sign up AND show up early!
From there, pick up will happen on Saturday at 4pm at 60 Smith Crossing Road in Wappingers, and you're asked to bring a copy of your driver's license and a five pound bag of puppy or adult dog food, any brand. The pups then spend time with you Saturday (8/8) into Sunday (8/9), and drop off is back at 60 Smith Crossing Road on Sunday between 5 and 6pm.
A Bit About CARE of DC
As a reminder, CARE of DC is a non-profit, no-kill animal rescue. Since being formed in 2016, they have found homes for more than 6,000 animals (including two in my own home back in 2019 as pictured above) They are dedicated to the rehab and placement of homeless animals and have a goal of protecting the welfare of animals and promote the humane treatment of their dogs, cats and other critters.
