The County's Department of Emergency Response, also known as DCER, has received recognition for its 'high-quality emergency management program and disaster recovery planning,' and earned official accreditation through the state's Local Emergency Management Accredidation Program by the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.

The accreditation program, which was officially launched in 2017, has recognized only 20-some counties across the state, and involves community stakeholders and partners in the process.

In order to complete the 'arduous' process, Dutchess County Emergency Response had to be evaluated on a number of emergency management standards that include 'national Emergency Management Accreditation Program standards, relevant State laws, and emergency management best practices.'

The current accreditation will last for five years, and then will entail a reaccreditation process.
