A Houston Resident’s Message For Help From The Hudson Valley
I couldn't imagine what the residents in Houston are going through. Don't feel like you can't make a difference in helping someone who has had to abandon their home and belongings. You can help right here in the Hudson Valley.
The effects of Hurricane Harvey are continuing to build up as they were just hit with another heavy rain fall yesterday. It may be thousands of miles away from New York but these people may have lost everything and you can help them. Thoughts and prayares are always nice but donations for food and other supplies will go much further. They are in need and you can help by donating at our local American Red Cross here.
Below is a message and pictures from an old friend who is living in Houston.
Things are going okay slowly but surely. It's pretty crazy here. I've attached some pictures that Bethany, (my girlfriend) and I took of the neighborhood around our apartment.
If you look closely at the highway, you can see a sign that reads "16ft. 6in" with the water about to crest it. My girlfriend's dad had to walk chest high in water while he evacuated his house taking only what he could on a small wooden pallet tied to a rope.
The alarming part is we're not in the worst area by any means. It's been a pretty exhausting 6 days, but we're blessed to have come out as fortunate as we did. Unfortunately, many others are not in that position and could use some help. Any and all efforts by the station to help those in need will certainly go a long way.
Thank you for all of the help. There are a lot of people who really need it.
If you can spare any monetary donation please take the time to donate to The American Red Cross in Poughkeepsie. If you can't help with money it's okay. Perhaps you can see how you can donate your time.
