ACC Calls On New Yorkers to Help With Animal Situation
We are constantly covering animal-related news here in the the Hudson Valley, and even state-wide across New York. Some of the stories are heartwarming, like adoptions and major donations, others, heartbreaking like animal rescues from hoarding situations, and worse.
The recent news about the New York City animal shelter status has many people talking, and i'm sure, local shelters wondering about potential impact.

'We're Crying For Help:" Here's What's Going On With New York Animal Shelters
As was first announced over the weekend, for the first time in their 30 year history, the Animal Care Centers of New York City, New York's largest animal shelter, shared that they have more than 1,000 animals in their care, and as a result, have made the difficult decision to suspend shelter pet intake. The reason for the hiatus is cited as 'critical capacity issues,' they're simply out of space.
The only exemptions at the moment are those animals requiring emergency medical care, pose a public safety risk, or those being dropped off by government agencies.

The ACC of NYC is an animal welfare 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and according to ABC 7, provide aid/assistance to over 15,000 animals on a yearly basis. These services include medical care, adoption, foster services as well as community resources and programs.
How New Yorkers Can Help
Given the overcapacity situation that the animal welfare group is currently experiencing, they're asking for New Yorkers to help however they can. Adopt, foster, volunteer, donate, share the animals currently available for adoption; it all adds up, and all makes a difference.
New Yorkers we need your help ... if you've ever considered helping, now is the time.
They're also urging people to consider ALL options when it comes to pet ownership and care, as right now, surrendering an animal is not an option.
Of the more than 1,000 pets currently in the care of ACC in NYC, 800 are currently available for adoption, so if now is the right time to add a pet to your family, consider the options available on the AAC website, here.
