It's the giving season in the Hudson Valley, but that doesn't mean a house cleaning free-for-all.

The holidays are a great reminder that family can mean more than just blood relatives. The community in the Hudson Valley is full of generous people looking to help their neighbors in any way they can, including donations to local Goodwill stores. This year the nationwide chain is reminding would-be donors about what will and won't be accepted.

Clothing Donations Accepted at New York Goodwill Stores

All the classic items you find at Hudson Valley, NY Goodwill stores are all of course accepted as donations. These items include wardrobe donations like adult and children's clothing, adult jewelry, shoes, sunglasses, and new socks and underwear.

Household Items Accepted at New York Goodwill Stores

Goodwill stores also accept household items like dish sets, flatware, pots and pans in good condition, and drinking glasses. In fact, nearly everything from lamps, picture frames, and vases to bedding, new curtains, and office supplies are also accepted. Currently Goodwill says they are NOT accepting furniture donations.

Electronics and Appliances Accepted at New York Goodwill Stores

Flat screen (only) TVs, computer monitors, reset cell phones and laptops, DVDs, DVD players, and video games are all accepted at New York Goodwill stores. So are appliances like blenders, microwaves, vacuums, and even exercise equipment.

Items New York Goodwill Stores Will Not Accept

After using common sense (no stained items, used underwear, or weapons), there are still a few items Goodwill will not accept. This includes furniture, trophies, plastic storage containers, stuffed animals, and light fixtures.
