All New York DMV Locations Now Require Reservations
Multiple DMV locations in the Hudson Valley have required reservations but now it's the policy across the state.
In an email to previous DMV customers, there is a new reservation policy in place at all Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) locations in New York State. This only applies to in-person services. If you can complete a transaction online you will not be able to make an appointment for an in-person visit for that service.
These are all the transactions that can be done online:
- Driver license, permits, and non-driver IDs
- Driving penalties and tickets
- Vehicle transactions
- DMV records
- Businesses and organizations
- Become an organ donor
- DMV electronic voter registration application
- Sign up for E-Z Pass
The reservation policy applies to all New York State regions that are in Phase 3 of reopening. This applies to the Hudson Valley as we are in Phase 4 of reopening. Policies and services available depend on each location. You can make a DMV reservation and get more information here.
Below is the full email:
Dear Customer,
To keep you and our staff safe and healthy, the DMV is changing the way we do business.
You will now need a reservation for in-person service at all DMV offices. Our new reservation only policy will help us maintain social distancing while still providing the services you need, and it will be more convenient for you.
Reservations are available in all regions already in Phase 3 of the New York Forward reopening plan. Reservations are only available for limited types of transactions that cannot be done online or by mail or drop box. For more information about making a reservation at your local DMV, go to the Office Locations page on the DMV website. You can also find information about mailing in or dropping off a transaction.
You can also see a list of transactions that can be completed online.
We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
