Outstanding Hudson Valley Star Just Made History on the Yankees

The Hudson Valley has another reason to be proud baseball fans this week after a Hudson Valley star made history in his first year playing for the New York Yankees.

It wasn't the best year for Yankees faithful. While missing the postseason wasn't on anyone's wish list, there were at least some internal highlights, like the former Hudson Valley Renegades star Anthony Volpe's rookie season that ended with a record-setting honor.

Yankees Star Had Standout Season in the Hudson Valley, NY

Originally drafted by the Yankees in 2019, Volpe had a standout season playing in Dutchess County, NY as a Renegade in 2021 before taking several promotions that eventually landed him in the Big Leagues. Now, he's the first Yankees rookie in history to win the Gold Glove award.

Former Hudson Valley Renegade Wins Gold Glove for New York Yankees

The Gold Glove is awarded to one player per position in both the American and National leagues of Major League Baseball (MLB) to recognize outstanding defensive play. While the last Yankees shortstop to receive the honor was Derek Jeter for his performance in the 2010 season, Volpe is now the Yankees' first rookie (as well as the youngest shortstop in MLB history) to win the honor.

While he only spent one season in the Hudson Valley, Volpe could be described as resident-adjacent. Born in New York City and and splitting his childhood between New York and New Jersey, Volpe has been a lifelong Yankee fan and decided to sign with the team back in 2019 instead of attending Vanderbilt University.
