Now That’s Nostalgia: BOOK IT Summer Reading Program Returns
Of course we remember BOOK IT, who could forget reading book after book after book to get those stickers and earn that free Pizza Hut personal pie, always paired with a cold drink in one of their signature red cups.
If you've got younger kiddos, now is your chance to share in the nostalgia, and help get them off their devices this summer while also earning free pizza. BOOK IT is back!

BOOK IT Program Returns, Free Pizza Awaits
For those who don't have fond childhood memories of this pizza-incentivized program, here's how it works. Back in the mid-1980's, the president of Pizza Hut (Arthur Gunther) along with a marketing executive (Bud Gates) discussed 'renewed calls for literacy support from then-President Ronald Reagan.' From there, the idea then went into motion and I guess you can say the rest is history.
Fast forward all these years later, it's been reported that 7 million students and 233,080 classrooms took advantage of the pizza for reading incentive less than a year after it was launched.
If you're lucky enough to have a remaining Pizza Hut location in decent proximity, don't delay on signing your school-aged kids up for the BOOK IT program where they can earn personal pan pizzas (and more) for meeting summer reading goals.
The program will run from June 1st through August 31st, and is open to kids from pre-K through 6th grade. Registration is open effective today (May 1st).
How Does It All Work?
Each registered reader will have different reading milestones to meet, and as they do, they'll get digital 'Reading Award Certificates' which can then be redeemed for a free one-topping personal pie from Pizza Hut. The limit is one certificate per month, useable by the reader who earned it.
Here in the Hudson Valley, we're pretty lucky, all things considered, to still have a few Pizza Hut locations. 75 N Plank Road in Newburgh, 280 Route 211 East in Middletown, 22 Sullivan Ave in Liberty, and 214 NY-59 in Nanuet.
Does anyone still have their BOOK IT bookmarks or rewards from wayyyy back in the day (before the world went digital)?
