Dutchess County celebrated the opening of Bowdoin Park's new outdoor archery range this past weekend on Saturday, September 16th. The range was funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Fund and was completed this summer. The new range's completion expands the capacity for the popular Dutchess County Parks' Weekend Archery Program.

The Dutchess County Parks' Weekend Archery Program has been held every spring and fall as part of Parks' Naturalist Programming schedule for the last 14 years. The new range doubles participants capacity with space for 20 people to take part per session. The range features a covered firing line and storage shed for equipment. It is located adjacent to Pavilion 4 and features an accessible sidewalk and parking area, making the program easy to access for participants of all abilities.

Dutchess County Executive William F.X. O’Neil said,

“We’re excited to welcome program participants to the new outdoor archery range! For nearly two decades, this program has been a way for residents, young and old, to try the sport of archery in a safe way. We’re excited to celebrate this newest improvement at Bowdoin Park and remain committed to offering dynamic, educational, and fun programming for everyone.”

Dutchess County Park Naturalist and Community Programs

Dutchess County Parks offers a variety of educational programs throughout the year. Their programs provide children and adults an opportunity to experience, share and have hands on learning time within the parks. Their programs focus on various aspects of environmental awareness, prehistoric Native American culture, and survival skills. The goal is to give youth and adults a deeper understanding and appreciation of nature within a fun and entertaining park atmosphere. They also try to instill a sense of personal responsibility and teamwork during each program offered.
