Work is set to begin on improving a busy Dutchess County intersection that sees over 6,000 per day.

The Dutchess County Department of Public Works has announced work to improve the intersection of Bruzgul Road/Wingdale Mountain Road (CR 21) and Clove Valley Road/Clove Road (CR 9) in the Town of Union Vale.

The work is expected to begin on or about July 15. The project is designed to improve traffic safety and sight distance with a redesigned intersection.   Occasional traffic delays should be anticipated during the project, which is expected to be completed by mid- to late-August.

The project involves building a conventional four-way intersection with four-foot shoulders, replacing the existing island. Once complete, the new intersection will give right-of-way to motorists on Bruzgul Road/Wingdale Mountain Road with Clove Valley Road/Clove Road controlled by stop signs.

The intersection will remain open during construction with occasional lane closures that will cause traffic delays and interruptions.

Dutchess County Marc Molinaro said:

This project is among the $25 million we are investing in various bridge and highway projects this year, improving the safety and reliability for all those who travel our County roads every day. We will continue maintaining and improving our infrastructure to ensure residents and visitors have a safe commute and we support the needs of our communities today and into the future

Motorists are advised to plan for additional time and to exercise extra caution near the construction site, obey the posted speed limits, traffic advisory signs, and the directions from flaggers in the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and other motorists.
