There was recently a Gold Medal Flour recall that affected other items, like cake mixes that were made using GM flour. This recall has nothing to do with that. These cake mixes are being recalled because of possible coconut contamination.

Hampton Creek, the producer of the mixes, is voluntarily recalling 6 different cake mix SKUs because of a possible salmonella contamination of one of the ingredients contained in the mix, Native Coconut Milk Powder.

Per the FDA’s website, “Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.”

If you have the product you are being asked to not eat it, discard it immediately or take back to the place of purchase for replacement or refund.
