There's already a long list of techniques used by scammers in the Hudson Valley. Recent years have seen the rise of paving scams, for example, that involve homeowners being offered "leftover" materials at bargain prices. The newest scam also focuses on the promise of saving money.

New Central Hudson Scam in the Hudson Valley

"This department has taken several reports over the past few days of a person going to residences and businesses offering products to lower your Central Hudson bill", the Marlborough Police Department recently posted on Facebook. They continued by sharing how the alleged scammer gains trust with their targets.

Central Hudson Scam in Marlborough: Details

The alleged scammer, identified as a male who uses false Central Hudson identification, is reported to have promised savings on Central Hudson bills after a home evaluation:

It has been reported that he was allowed entry in to at least one home to evaluate the potential savings. The person has become agitated when his services are rejected. CALL the POLICE if this person comes to your home or business. DO NOT let this person in to your home.

In the post's comment section, multiple residents reported being visited by the suspected scammer, with many sharing that they were able to record footage of the man with their doorbell cameras.
